Confined Spaces – Enter SAFELY or Don’t Enter!

Our facilities have many areas classified as “Confined Spaces” because of the hazards that could lie within. There have been many fatal accidents in confined spaces in the agricultural manufacturing industry, primarily due to engulfment by falling material or entrapment in mechanical hazards such as augers. Our recent confined space inventory at all facilities has been part of a complete review of our Standard Operating Procedures for safe confined space entry. This ongoing project enables all entities to properly classify each space and then carefully study the best procedures for entry considering ALL mechanical, atmospheric, engulfment, pneumatic, hydraulic, stored energy, thermal and liquid hazards potentially present in each identified space. If in doubt, STAY OUT!
